The Lord Is Near to the Brokenhearted

by Tails Azimuth

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Life can sometimes feel heavy. We may face sickness, loss, fear, disappointment, family struggles, or moments when our hearts feel completely broken. In those times, it can feel like no one truly understands the pain we are carrying.

But Psalm 34:18 gives us a powerful promise: God is near.

This verse does not say that God is only near when life is easy. It says He is near to the brokenhearted. That means when we are hurting, crying, worried, or feeling weak, God does not move away from us. He comes close.

God Sees Our Pain

Sometimes people hide their pain because they do not want to look weak. But God sees what others may not see. He knows the silent tears, the private prayers, and the fears we cannot easily explain.

When the Bible says God is near to the brokenhearted, it reminds us that we are never suffering alone. Even when we cannot feel strong, God is still present.

God Saves the Crushed in Spirit

The second part of the verse says God “saves the crushed in spirit.” A crushed spirit can mean feeling hopeless, tired, afraid, or emotionally overwhelmed.

God’s saving help may come through peace, healing, strength, wisdom, comfort, or people He sends into our lives. His help may not always come the way we expect, but His presence gives us hope to keep going.

This Verse Gives Hope

Psalm 34:18 is a reminder that brokenness is not the end of the story. God can bring comfort where there is pain and light where there is darkness.

When we pray during hard times, we can hold onto this promise:

Lord, You are near to me. You see my pain. Please heal my heart, strengthen my spirit, and help me trust You one day at a time.

Final Thought

Whatever you are facing today, remember this: God has not forgotten you. He is close to the brokenhearted, and He cares deeply for those who feel crushed.

You may feel weak, but you are not alone. You may feel broken, but God is near. You may feel hopeless, but His love is still holding you.

God bless you. 🙏
